Thomas R. Cooney Sr., 67 of Keansburg, known affectionately by friends and family as Tom, passed away on March 11, 2024, at Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune. Born on March 19, 1956, in Jersey City, Tom and his family moved to Keansburg in 1967.
Professionally, Tom dedicated many years to Kenco Wire and Iron Products in Keansburg, where he honed his skills as a welder. His craftsmanship and attention to detail were well-known and respected, and his contributions to the industry left a lasting impact. Tom was a valued team member and a friend to many, known for his reliability and willingness to lend a hand whenever needed.
Outside of work, Tom's passions were simple but deeply fulfilling. He enjoyed going fishing. Tom also had a talent for playing pool, often gathering with friends at local establishments to share in the camaraderie of the game. These moments of leisure were not just hobbies for Tom; they were an extension of the warm and sociable spirit that he carried with him in all aspects of his life.
Tom was preceded in death by his mother, Edna J. Kuyl, who passed in August 2023. He is survived by his wife, Donna Bailey Cooney of Keansburg. Tom also leaves behind a legacy through his children: a son, Thomas R. Cooney Jr. of Keansburg, and two daughters and sons-in-law, Chastine and Shaughn Roche, and Carriele and Michael Parks, all of Keansburg. Tom's brother, John Cooney, and sister-in-law, Janice Bell, of Keansburg, also mourn his passing.
Perhaps one of Tom's greatest joys was being a grandfather to his eight grandchildren, Sara, Sean, Ryan, Carriele, Michael, Kyle, Donovan, and Shealynn.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Saturday, March 16, 2024, from 5 PM to 7 PM. As per Tom’s wishes, he will be cremated
