Daniel John O’Neil, 61, of Highlands, passed away on Sunday, May 12th, at home. He was born in Long Branch and has been a life-long resident of Highlands. Dan enjoyed people, socializing with his friends and making new friends. He was the original “Picker” of trash to treasure and the ultimate story teller. Dan O had a huge heart; if he had nothing he would find something to give you if only a smile. Dan is survived by his parents; William and Marguerite O’Neil; three brothers and sisters in-law; Richard and Nancy O’Neil their children Matthew, Meghan and Austin, William O’Neil Jr. and Patrick O’Neil and Dr. Susan Wallace and Patrick's son Andrew; two sisters and brothers in-law; Elizabeth and Barry Sewing, their children Ryan and Angela Sewing, great nephews Ryan and Noah and Brittany and Max DeFrancisco and great niece Luna and Priscilla and Matthew Halvey and their children Elizabeth and Conall. So shocked to here of Dan's passing. I was Dan's chiropractor over at Conifer Village where he would come with his american flag standing proud on his car. He was the only "outsider" that Conifer allowed in to see me there. Over the few years I got to know Dan, he was a true patriot, an amazing story teller and just a "good old boy". Dan would bring me in gifts just because. These were his gifts to me: He made a wall light from a large sea shell attached to a piece of drift wood. My daughter loved it and it hangs in her bedroom, Dan had ducks in his yard, he brought me eggs on several occasions, and he brought me the best little neck clams I ever had. He was the most golly and good natured person I have ever met. I had disabled patients at Conifer and Dan would always let them go ahead of him and help them get up out of their chairs. He had this magical energy around him that made people love him. Even thou I have not seen Dan for a few years, he has often reached out to me on Face book, commenting on my posts. May his memory be a blessing.
