Daniel John O’Neil, 61, of Highlands, passed away on Sunday, May 12th, at home. He was born in Long Branch and has been a life-long resident of Highlands. Dan O was a former member of Local 669 Sprinkler fitters. Dan O enjoyed repairing objects others considered junk and working with metal; his family considered him an artistic craftsman. Dan enjoyed people, socializing with his friends and making new friends. He was the original “Picker” of trash to treasure and the ultimate story teller. Dan O had a huge heart; if he had nothing he would find something to give you if only a smile. Dan is survived by his parents; William and Marguerite O’Neil; three brothers and sisters in-law; Richard and Nancy O’Neil their children Matthew, Meghan and Austin, William O’Neil Jr. and Patrick O’Neil and Dr. Susan Wallace and Patrick's son Andrew; two sisters and brothers in-law; Elizabeth and Barry Sewing, their children Ryan and Angela Sewing, great nephews Ryan and Noah and Brittany and Max DeFrancisco and great niece Luna and Priscilla and Matthew Halvey and their children Elizabeth and Conall. He also has a large extended family of many beloved aunts, uncles and cousins. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Thursday, from 2-4 & 6-8pm at the Jacqueline M. Ryan Home for Funerals 233 Carr Ave. Keansburg. A religious service will be held at the 3:30 pm. Cremation will be private .
