Peter Edward Schaefer, 62, Dearest father, son, and brother, of Union Beach, NJ, passed away on April 2nd, at Bayshore Medical Center, Holmdel. Peter was born and raised on Staten Island and was a graduate of New Dorp High School, class of 1976. He had a lifelong passion for cars which led to his career as an auto mechanic. He learned the skills of the trade at Lincoln Technical Institute. Peter took great pride in his vast collection of auto mechanic tools which he always kept in pristine condition to be ready for his next client. While living on Staten Island, he worked at Spiral Automotive which is owned and operated by his best man, John Quaranta. He married the love of his life, the late Karen "Coco" Enigan, in March 1988. Before having children of their own, Peter and Coco enjoyed going on camping trips with 11 other couples who referred to themselves as "the Dirty Dozen." Peter was a lover of all sports. His favorite teams were the New York Giants and New York Islanders. One of his best memories was attending a New York Giants game with his dad. Peter was a life-long learner who had a particular love for history. He would often call his mother to find out if she answered the final Jeopardy question correctly and they would compare notes. Peter's greatest passion was coaching soccer for his children's teams. His passionate voice could always be heard above the rest, cheering on his children and the other players. Although he is no longer with us, we have no doubt he will continue cheering them on as they go on their journeys through life. After being hit hard by hurricane Sandy, Peter and his family received much support and love from their many friends in Union Beach. Peter was the loving father of three wonderful children, James, Robert and Sarah Schaefer, husband of the beloved late Karen "Coco" Enigan Schaefer, son of Angelica Paidoussis Schaefer and the late Edward J. Schaefer, brother of Marion and Howard Kalmikoff and Katherine and Mark Kelly. Uncle of Rabbi Scott and Craig Kalmikoff, Kaitlyn and Richard Meserve, Mark Kelly and great uncle of Riley Meserve. He is also survived by many loving friends who stood by him through all of his health related challenges. After a brave struggle with numerous health issues, Peter succumbed to the Coronavirus. He is very much loved and missed by all who had the honor to know him. Although he is deeply missed, it is comforting to know that he is with his wife and dad again. Arrangements were under the direction of the Jacqueline M. Ryan Home for Funerals 233 Carr Ave. Keansburg, NJ. A memorial service will be held in his memory at a later date.
