Charles VanLeer Jr. Obituary

Charles N. Van Leer Jr., of Keansburg, passed away peacefully at the age of 85 on June 9th, 2025, at Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune. Born on May 20th, 1940, in Rahway, he was raised in Red Bank, prior to moving to Keansburg in 1973. Charles grew into a man of great character and warmth, touching the lives of those who knew him.

Charles was pre-deceased by his parents Charles and Beatrice Van Leer Sr., and his brother William Van Leer.

A devoted husband and father, Charles leaves behind his loving wife of 53 years, Lola Van Leer. Together they built a family founded on love, respect, and joy. He will be deeply missed by his three sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Melanie Van Leer III of Oklahoma, David and Danielle Van Leer of Lincroft, and Richard Van Leer of Florida; his two daughters, Brandy Van Leer of Hazlet and Sheri and Anthony DeVito of Middletown and his brother, Roger Van Leer of Las Vegas. Charles spirit will live on through his 12 grandchildren and 3 great -grandchildren,  who will continue to cherish the countless memories he imparted.

Throughout his life, Charles was a dedicated and skilled mechanic at Anchor Glass, where his hard work and expertise were well-respected. His commitment to community service was unwavering, as he was a proud member of both the Keansburg First Aid and Hazlet First Aid and Rescue Squad. Charles selfless service and willingness to help others in their time of need was a testament to his compassionate nature. 

An avid Yankees fan, Charles enthusiasm for the game was infectious, and he could often be found cheering on his favorite team. His passion for travel led him on many adventures, from the excitement of Atlantic City to the tranquility of cruises. He relished the opportunity to explore new places and create lasting memories with those he loved.

Charles zest for life and and kind-heartedness left an unforgettable mark on all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He was a man who found joy in life's simple pleasures, like spending time with his family, which was the cornerstone of his happiness. 

His presence will be profoundly missed, but the light he brought into the world will continue to shine brightly.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Saturday, June 14th, from 9AM to 1PM with a service at 12:30pm, at the Jacqueline M. Ryan Home for Funerals 233 Carr Ave. Keansburg. Cremation was private. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to either St. Jude at www.stjude.org or the Deborah Foundation at www.deborahfoundation.org
