Daniel D. Alston Sr., 62, of Keansburg, passed away on Friday, July 16th, at home. He was born in Manhasset, Long Island, New York, lived in Middletown, prior to moving to Keansburg 7 years ago. In his early teens, Dan worked for the family business, Phil’s Place, doing housekeeping and janitorial work and Gay Life Incorported doing landscaping in the summer and snow removal in the winter. When he moved to New Jersey in 1975, he began doing masonry work, then became a truck driver and furniture mover for Squan and Brielle Furniture. In retirement, Dan volunteered his time to St. Marks Kitchen cooking and serving people in the Keansburg community. In his last days, he volunteered at Project Paul’s Thrift Shop and served as a driver for the Church of St. Ann. He was also a Master Mason of Alpha Lodge #16 in East Orange and a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Northern, New Jersey. Dan was predeceased by his parents; Phillip Alston and Juanita Garcia-Alston. He is survived by his son and daughter in-law; Daniel Jr. and Dorothy Alston of Tinton Falls, 11 siblings: Milo Alston, Samuel Alston, Schula Alston-Williams, Deidre Rigsbee, Mia Haynes, Roy Alston, Tisha Alston, Merrill Alston, Ina Alston, Lakima Franco, and Alicia Stroma. He also leaves behind two Sister-in-Laws: Regina Alston and Lisa Alston and three Brother-in-Laws: Nathaniel Williams, Timothy Haynes and Jeffrey Thomas, grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews, and friends. Arrangements were under the direction of the Jacqueline M. Ryan Home for Funerals 233 Carr Ave. Keansburg. Cremation will be private. In honor of Dan, the family requests donations be sent to Project Paul in Keansburg.
