James "Jim" Butler Obituary

James J. Butler, 84, known affectionately as Jim to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on December 4, 2024, in Red Bank.  Born on October 17, 1940, in Manhattan, he was raised in Jersey City and lived in Metuchen, prior to moving to Middletown. Jim's life was marked by his unwavering spirit, his dedication to his loved ones, and his passion for life's simple pleasures.

Jim proudly served his country as a member of the US Army from 1961 to 1963 during the Vietnam War. Following his service, he built a long and successful career as a Technician for Verizon, where his diligence and expertise were well respected by his colleagues.

Family was the cornerstone of Jim's life. He was predeceased by his parents, William Sr. and Margaret Butler, and his brother William "Bill" Butler Jr. His legacy is carried on by his beloved daughters, Christine and Megan Butler, their mother Maureen Murphy and his dear friend Nancy Vadimski, who will cherish the memory of their fun-loving father who, in his younger years, delighted in being their chauffeur and the source of countless happy memories. Jim is also survived by his brother, Thomas (Donna) Butler, and his two sisters, Peggy Adler and Katherine "Kitty" (Joel) Stern, many nieces, nephews and extended family, who will miss his warmth and camaraderie.

Jim's interests and hobbies painted the picture of a man who savored every moment. An avid fan of the Giants and Mets, he found joy in the thrill of the game. His love for golf was only matched by his enjoyment of long walks, often ranging from 7 to 9 miles, which he liked to cap off with a visit to the movies. Jim's adventurous spirit found its outlet in the casinos of Atlantic City, where he reveled in the challenge of a good game of Black Jack. At home, his love for animals shone through in his fondness for cats and dogs, companions that added to the warmth of his household.

Those who knew Jim will recall his appreciation for a well-mixed Bloody Mary, a testament to his zest for life and the simple pleasures that make each day worth celebrating. His presence was a comfort and a joy to all who were lucky enough to share in his journey.

As we bid farewell to James J. Butler, we reflect on a life well-lived, a path marked by service, family, and joy. Jim's memory will live on in the hearts of those he touched, a beacon of the love and laughter he brought into the world. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire us every day. A memorial service will take place on Sunday, January 26th, 2025 from 12:00pm - 2:00pm at the Jacqueline M.
