John Charles Berth Jr., known to many as "Butch”, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2025, in Brooksville, Florida. John leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and unwavering dedication to his family and community.
Born June 8, 1943, at Riverview Hospital in Red Bank, New Jersey to John C. Berth Sr. and Dorothy Berth, Butch embodied the spirit of a true Jersey boy from East Keansburg. His life was a testament to his unwavering work ethic. He spent many years as a skilled welder. After retiring from I.F.F., his entrepreneurial spirit showed with his ownership of Music Makers and Bayshore Powerwashing. His passion for the sea was undeniable; as captain of the Bonnie Dory, he spent countless hours fishing and boating, sharing his love of the water with family and friends. He was a proud, long standing member of the Middletown Elks & participant in the Leonardo Marina Fluke Tournament.
Beyond his professional achievements, Butch’s passion and commitment to his community was truly remarkable. His 50 years of dedicated service to the Middletown First Aid and Rescue Squad speaks volumes about his selfless nature and compassion for others. He was a man of integrity, a loving father and grandfather ("Papa Butch"), and a devoted husband to Isabella (McGuire) Berth, for over 60 years. Their enduring love story was an inspiration to all who knew them.
Butch leaves behind a family that loved and cherished him deeply: his children, John Charles Berth III, (Florence Berth), Dorothy L. Berth (Canto), and Bonnie Berth (Hunt); and his seven grandchildren Hailey Canto, Deirdre Kelly, John Berth IV, Owen Berth, Margaret Berth, Lena Mujovic, and Samuel Hunt, each holding a special place in his heart.
While we mourn his loss, let us also celebrate the extraordinary life he lived. He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Berth; his father, John C. Berth; and his sister, Carol (Fryer) Berth. He is survived by his sisters, Joanne Berth and Linda (Ozer) Berth, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, September 12th at 6pm at Yesterday's Restaurant & Banquet Center in Hazlet, New Jersey.
