Joseph G. Longo, 82, of Keansburg, was a cherished husband, father, brother, and grandfather, who passed away peacefully on September 30, 2024, at Bayshore Medical Center, Holmdel. Born on July 14, 1942, in Jersey City, he was raised in Red Bank, prior to moving to Keansburg. Joe's life was characterized by his entrepreneurial spirit, his heartfelt conversations with his customers and the folks that knew him will forever be cherished and missed.
Joseph was predeceased by his beloved parents, Salvatore and Margaret Longo Sr., his dear wife, Annette Longo, and his brother, Anthony Longo. His legacy continues through his son, Brian Longo and Brian's fiancée, Kalisha Connikie; his daughter, Laura Longo-Robinson and her husband Norman; his brother and sister in-law, Salvatore and Julie Longo Jr.; and his granddaughter, Kassidy Connikie along with many nieces and nephews.
For more than 40 years, Joe was the proud owner and operator of Longo's Cafe in Keansburg, where he poured his passion into every aspect of the business. After Hurricane Sandy, Joe continued his hot dog business on the beach at Sandy Hook and later back in Keansburg at the Shell Station. He was a familiar face to the locals, always ready with a warm greeting and a story to share. His love for the community extended to his work at the election polls, where he enjoyed the camaraderie and the opportunity to serve his town.
Joseph's entrepreneurial spirit also shone through his ventures with his hot dog stands, which were more than just a business to him—they were a way to connect with people from all walks of life. He had a unique ability to make everyone feel welcome and valued, creating a sense of community wherever he went.
A man of varied interests, Joseph relished the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid player of the Lottery, always hopeful and optimistic about the next draw. His trips to Atlantic City were not just about the games but also about the experiences and the joy of being surrounded by the vibrant atmosphere.
Joseph's presence was a blessing to all who knew him. His conversations were never short on laughter or wisdom, and his stories will be retold for years to come. He had a way of making the ordinary extraordinary and finding joy in every moment.
As we bid farewell to Joseph, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of love, hard work, and meaningful connections. His memory will be treasured in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to cross paths with him.
In honor of Joseph's memory, we will carry forward the values he embodied—kindness, generosity, and a zest for life. We will miss his infectious smile, his laugh, and the sparkle in his eyes when he spoke.
Joseph G. Longo's life story is a testament to the beauty of dedication, the strength of family bonds, and the enduring power of a kind spirit. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his family find comfort in the knowledge that his legacy lives on through the lives he touched and the love he shared.
