Lawrence "Larry" McKeon Sr. Obituary

Lawrence A. "Larry" McKeon Sr., of Atlantic Highlands, formally of Keansburg, a cherished husband, devoted father, and respected community figure, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2024, at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank, at the age of 41. Born on February 16, 1982, in Manhattan, NY, Larry was a beacon of kindness and an embodiment of the spirit of service throughout his life.

Predeceased by his parents, Dennis McKeon Sr. and Patricia McKeon, his brothers, Thomas and Dennis McKeon Jr., and his father-in-law, Frank Dimaira, Larry's legacy of love and dedication lives on through his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Kathleen Dimaira McKeon , and their two sons, Lawrence "LJ" McKeon Jr. and Kaden "KK" McKeon, all of whom reside in Atlantic Highlands. Larry also leaves behind his brothers and sisters-in-law, William and Donna McKeon of Middletown, Sean McKeon of Middletown, and Edward and Dana McKeon of Florida; his mother-in-law, Ann Dimaira of Atlantic Highlands; and his sisters-in-law, Jenny Dimaira of Atlantic Highlands and Patricia McKeon of South Carolina and his brother-in-law, Peter Dimaira of Florida. His memory will be cherished by his adoring niece and nephews, William, Samantha, Thomas, Dennis, Lauren, Edward, Patrick, Alyssa, Jack, and Charlie, as well as numerous extended family members and lifelong friends who were touched by his warmth and generosity.

Larry dedicated his professional life to serving others as a truck driver for US Foods, a role that showcased his reliability and commitment to hard work. However, his entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly as the part owner of K&L Ice Cream. With a jingle and a smile, he brought joy to many as he drove the ice cream truck through the neighborhoods of his community.

Deeply involved in local sports, Larry was a guiding force for the youth of the area, coaching wrestling at Keansburg, and basketball and baseball in Atlantic Highlands, as well as football in Middletown. His passion for mentoring young minds extended to his role as an assistant Scout Master of Troop 22 Boys Scouts in Navesink, where he shaped the lives of countless scouts with his wisdom and patience.

A man of faith and fellowship, Larry was a proud member of the Reverend Joseph J. Donnelly Knights of Columbus, where he attained the rank of a third-degree Knight. His commitment to his community was unwavering, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

An avid sports fan, Larry's enthusiasm for the Giants, Rangers, and Notre Dame was infectious, and his love for skiing was matched only by his skills in the kitchen. His culinary creations were a testament to his belief in the power of a shared meal to bring people together.

Above all, Larry's world revolved around his boys and his wife. He was a mentor to any child in need, always ready with a supportive word or a helping hand. His presence was a source of strength and comfort, and his influence will be felt for generations to come.

Larry's life was a tapestry of love, service, and joy. His laughter filled rooms, his kindness touched hearts, and his dedication to his family and community set a standard for all who knew him. As we bid farewell to Lawrence A. McKeon Sr., we take solace in the knowledge that his spirit will continue to guide us, just as the memories of his love will forever be a source of comfort and inspiration.
