Ramona "Ramonita" Ramos, 84, of Hazlet, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2024, at the Alameda Center in Perth Amboy. Born on February 29, 1940, in Yabocoa, Puerto Rico, Ramona was a leap year baby, a unique beginning for a woman who lived a life full of love and laughter.
Predeceased by her loving parents, Julian and Josephine Ramos, Ramona was the heart of her family. She outlived her three siblings and her beloved grandson, Eric Matos. Ramona's spirit is carried on by her son, Frankie Matos; her three daughters and son-in-law, Judith and Eddie Torres of Union Beach, Brenda Lee Matos of Jersey City, and Betsy Arlequin of Newark; her cherished seven grandchildren, Ashley, Eddie, Jesse, Seleena, Edith, Joshua, Lucas, and Danielle; her four great-grandchildren, Elasia, Faith, Emlee, and Genesis; and her precious great-great-grandchild, Messiah.
In her youth, Ramona worked in a factory, but she dedicated most of her life to the noble role of a homemaker, creating a warm and welcoming home for her family. Her dedication to her family was the cornerstone of her life, and her legacy of love and care is evident in the close-knit family she leaves behind.
Ramona's zest for life was infectious; she had an unwavering passion for the simple pleasures that brought her joy. Her trips to Atlantic City, where she relished the excitement of scratch-offs, were legendary among her family and friends. She was the life of every family party, often seen with a Coors Light in hand, her laughter ringing above the music. Ramona's culinary skills were unmatched; her love for cooking resulted in countless memorable meals that brought her family together. A cup of coffee was her constant companion, no matter the time of day, and her love for dancing kept her spirit and body young.
Throughout her life, Ramona's doors—and arms—were always open. Friends, family, and even strangers found comfort in her presence and her home. Her unwavering support and advice were sought after by many, and her ability to listen and truly hear made her an invaluable confidant.
As a matriarch, Ramona instilled in her family the values of unity, strength, and the importance of celebrating life's milestones together. Her guidance was gentle yet impactful, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of her children and succeeding generations.
In her passing, Ramona leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to flourish in the hearts of her family. Her memory will be treasured, her stories retold, and her love felt forevermore. Ramona's life was a testament to the beauty of devotion to family, the joy of embracing every moment, and the richness of a life well-lived.
The void left by Ramona's departure is immense, yet the memories she created will serve as a comforting reminder of the time spent with a remarkable woman. Her family takes solace in knowing that she lived a full and vibrant life, surrounded by those she loved and who loved her in return.
As we say goodbye to Ramona, we are reminded to embrace the beauty of life as she did, with open arms and an open heart. Her story is one that will be told with smiles and a sense of gratitude for the time we were blessed to share with her. May she rest in peace, forever in our memories and eternally in our hearts.
