Santos Lopez Sr., 85, a cherished family man, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2024, at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune. Born and raised, in San Sebastian, Puerto Rico, came to the US in 1967 and lived in Jersey City, prior to moving to Keansburg 33 years ago. Santos's life was a testament to the enduring spirit of love, hard work, and dedication to family.
Predeceased by his parents, Ricardo Lopez and Candida Torres Rivera, his daughter Betsy Torres, his brother Enrique Lopez, his sister Natalia Lopez, and his daughter-in-law Neysi Torres, Santos's legacy is carried on through his extensive and loving family. Santos's wife of 55 years, Estrella Lopez, remained a constant source of love and support throughout their lives together. His memory will be forever cherished by his children, Eddie (Judith) Torres, David Torres, Santos (Nida) Lopez Jr., Edwin Lopez, Carmen (Frankie) Morales, and Milagros Lopez, who will continue to honor his memory through the values he instilled in them.
Santos's life was further enriched by his brother Ciano Lopez, his sisters Ortencia and Leonor Lopez, his 16 grandchildren, and his great-grandchildren, who all knew the joy of his generous spirit and the warmth of his presence.
A hardworking man, his strong work ethic was also evident in the care he took in farming while he still lived in Puerto Rico. When he moved to the US, Santos was a factory worker. His commitment to providing for his family was a cornerstone of his character and one that won him the respect and admiration of all who knew him.
Santos's passions extended beyond his work. He was an avid fan of the Mets, finding joy and excitement in the thrills of baseball. He relished every opportunity to share this love with his family and friends. Santos also enjoyed the entertainment of WWE wrestling, another pastime that showcased his fun-loving nature.
A man who loved the outdoors, Santos found tranquility and satisfaction in fishing and crabbing. The quiet moments by the water were a source of reflection and peace for him. His love for barbecues with the family was legendary; these gatherings were filled with laughter and storytelling. Santos's green thumb was evident in his beautiful garden, a place where he nurtured plants with the same care he gave to his family.
Santos Lopez lived a life full of purpose and joy with his ability to find happiness in simple pleasures and his unwavering support for his family.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Friday from 5-9 pm at the Jacqueline M. Ryan Home for Funerals 233 Carr Ave. Keansburg. On Saturday there will be a 11:00am service at the funeral home followed by a burial at Bayview Cemetery, Leonardo.
