Sarah (Sally) Elizabeth Carnivale, a beacon of love and joy to all who knew her, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2024, at the age of 77 in Red Bank. She was born and raised in Hoboken, prior to moving to Middletown over 50 years ago.
Sarah was predeceased by her parents, James and Bettye Elson, and her niece Jennifer Tory-Mills. She leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion, exemplified by her enduring marriage to her loving husband, Anthony Carnivale. Together, they raised a family that became the center of her world: her children, Marc (Stacey) Carnivale of Hazlet, David (Nina) Carnivale of North Carolina, and Rachel Carnivale of Leonardo. She was a beloved sister to Julie (Hermann) Bussem of Eatontown, and an aunt to Billy (Diane) Tory of Eatontown.
Sarah's joy was magnified by her role as a grandmother to Alyssa, Marc Jr., Kristiana, and Juliana Carnivale, Gabriella Carnivale and her husband Steven Hetem, Cassidy, and Brendan Lunney. Her love extended to her great-grandchildren, Logan, Declan, Peyton Hetem, and Robert Scobie, who brought her immense pride and happiness. Sarah's presence in their lives will be deeply missed but her spirit will continue to guide them.
Professionally, Sarah dedicated many years of service as a secretary for the Middletown Township Police Department, where she worked in the records and traffic divisions before eventually becoming the secretary for the Chief. She retired in 2011, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, reliability, and integrity.
Beyond her work and family, Sarah had a passion for the simple pleasures in life. An avid reader and her hands were rarely still, as she delighted in the art of crocheting, creating beautiful pieces that would become treasured keepsakes for her family and friends.
Yet, it was her time spent with family that Sarah cherished above all else. The moments shared with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the highlights of her life. Each visit, each hug, each shared laugh, was a moment that Sarah held close to her heart.
Sarah's life will be celebrated in a manner that honors the joy she brought to others. Her laughter, her stories, and her love will continue to echo in the lives of those she touched. Arrangements were under the direction of the Jacqueline M. Ryan Home for Funerals 233 Carr Ave. Keansburg. Cremation will be private.
