Obituary for Alice Elizabeth Delaney

Alice Delaney nee McGowan, 85,passed away after a hard fought bout with cancer. Alice was a true New Yorker, born on W.133rd St., a true Vinegar Hill Girl. She attended the Manhattanville local parish school, Annunciation School, onto Father Young’s High School and finished her education at Grace Line. She married William Delaney in 1960, at the Church of St. Elizabeth in upper Manhattan. William died in 1993.
She found her dream job at Grace Shipping Lines and traveled all over South America, she coordinated shipping schedules to all parts of the world. After business declined, she went onto a long tenure at Merrill Lynch Financial Services, where she retired from in 2006. After retirement she became a member of the Uptown Sisters Book Club.
After a diagnosis of cancer, she joined a cancer research study at Sloan Kettering, helping to find a cure.
Alice lived in Manhattan all her life, until 2018 when she moved to an assisted living facility Bayside Manor, in Keansburg, NJ. She had a quick wit and a sharp mind, never losing any of it to the very end. Alice was a loving person, remembered by all who came in contact with her over the years. She is survived by her daughter Allison and her son in-law Brian O’Neill of Keansburg, NJ. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Thursday from 8AM – 10AM at the Jacqueline M. Ryan Home for Funerals 233 Carr Ave. Keansburg; NJ 07734, at 10AM there will be a Mass at St. Ann’s Church, Keansburg. Burial to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Bronx, NY.
